BBC Radio Wales Commissioning
BBC Radio Wales are currently looking to commission inventive new series ideas to be launched from 2023/24.
They’re open to bold ideas on topical events, and they also have a dedicated comedy section in their repertoire! From their website:
We’re looking for ways of showcasing new comedy talent and new platforms for established comedy talent. We’d be interested in ideas that use comedy to educate and inform; comedy that gets us into different communities across Wales and comedy that punches up, scrutinises and provides laser-sharp satire on Welsh politics and public life and makes mischief with Welsh popular culture, news and sport.
The guidelines for commission budgets are as follows:
- Scripted comedy: £6000 – £7000
- Unscripted comedy: £3000 – £5000
- Half hour feature: £1500 – £4000
- Hour long feature: £3000 – £4500
And the pricing guide for podcasts:
- Strand (a weekly podcast of 25 episodes or more): approx. £1k – 5k per episode
- Box Set (a limited season of 6 to 15 episodes): approx. £3k – £8k per episode
- Flagship: guide price dependent on talent, access to story etc.
To apply, you’ll need to submit a proposal including a brief summary alongside a longer synopsis with an outline of your idea, treatment and tone of your programme. BBC Radio Wales also suggest keeping your pitch short and succinct.
BBC Radio Wales have provided extensive information on the station’s programme structure and what they’re after from pitches. You can find that via the commissioning brief link on this page. So for the full information, advice and to submit your proposal, head on over to that link!
Applications close at midday on Tuesday 22nd November 2022.
