The final deadline to submit your script to Short Com’s TV Sitcom Writing Competition is approaching!

Please note that there is a fee to submit your script to the competition.

The Short Com TV Sitcom Writing Competition is for scripts of between 23-30 pages, written by either individuals or script writing teams. As long as your script displays a strong sitcom idea, then you’re good to go! Your script will be assessed by a panel of script readers with past experience of reading for production companies and script competitions.

Shortlisted writers will be showcased to agents and production companies, as well as being featured in the SHORT LIST; Short Com’s new platform. The platform has been created as a means of connecting talent with agents, producers, talent and commissioners who are on the lookout for new ideas. Additionally, the winner will receive one year’s membership to the British Comedy Guide Pro service.

The competition accepts submissions of any sitcom script within the page limit, and is open to global submissions (please ensure that you submit your script in English). The judges will be looking for great ideas, writing, and humour with wide audience appeal. To get into the nitty gritty, they’ll be looking at the strength of your script in such terms as character, plot, dialogue, concept, writing, and humour.

To submit your script to the competition, you’ll need to make sure it meets the following requirements:

  • 23-30 pages
  • Submitted in English
  • No discriminatory language
  • Original! Ie your own work
  • Written in industry screenplay format

Additionally, you won’t be eligible to apply if you’ve previously had a sitcom commissioned by a major network, broadcaster or streaming service broadcasted in the UK or US.

To apply, you’ll need to email info@shortcom.org. The subject line should be the title of your sitcom. Attach two PDFs: one containing your script and the other containing a one-page pitch of your sitcom idea (concept, series outline, and potential ideal cast).

You’ll find plenty of handy tips, along with full competition details, over on the Short Com website.

Applications close on 7th July 2023.
