Sky Comedy Rep Writing Development Scheme
Sky Comedy Rep 2021 was a great success, so the opportunity is back for 2022 and now open for applications! Sky Comedy Rep aims to discover and grow new comedy writing talent from across the UK, particularly from communities that have traditionally been under-represented in the arts.
In this writing scheme, eight writers will be paid a set fee of £3000 to develop a one-act stage play. As well as being paid for the work, successful writers will receive mentoring support from some top names in the comedy industry. Previous mentors include Meera Syal (Goodness Gracious Me, The Kumars), Guz Khan (Man Like Mobeen) and Danny Brocklehurst (Brassic, Shameless).
On the completion, the plays will get test runs at a scratch performance, and finally be performed at The Rep in 2023.
To apply, you’ll need to submit a script idea, plus a script excerpt which explores your idea. This year’s theme is ‘proposal in the park’, around which submitted ideas should be based.
The parameters for your wider script idea will be:
- It must feature a proposal of some kind
- It must be set in a park
- The script (when fully written) must be around 15 minutes in length
- The cast must feature between 1 – 4 characters
- The script must be comedic and designed to be staged for a live audience
Applications close at midday on 12th August 2022.
