So You Think You’re Funny?
Legendary competition for up and coming comedians, So You Think You’re Funny?, is back for 2023.
Offered by Gilded Balloon, the So You Think You’re Funny? new act stand-up competition has been running since 1988. It’s the longest-running competition of its kind, and aims to shine the spotlight on top new comedy talent.
Previous finalists include Aisling Bea, Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Tommy Tiernan, Romesh Ranganathan, Maisie Adam, Peter Kay, Reginald D Hunter, Russell Howard, Francesca Martinez, John Bishop, Alan Carr, Nina Conti, Rhod Gilbert, Sarah Millican, Hannah Gadsby, Jack Whitehall, and Rob Beckett.
Pretty impressive, right?
The winner of the competition will receive a whole host of prizes, including a fully paid for solo show (or mixed bill run) as part of the Gilded Balloon’s Fringe programme, a cash prize, mentorship & support, plus other paid performance slots. First and second runners up will receive the opportunity to take part in Gilded Balloon’s Fringe programme, a cash prize, and mentorship & support.
The Grand Final will be held in August, in front of a live audience and industry professionals.
To apply, you need to be an up and coming comedian with your own original material. That means you must have performed fewer than 15 stand-up spots (this includes open spots). You’ll need to apply with 7 minutes of material which should remain the same throughout the duration of the competition.
Regional showcases will be held from March until June, and there’s no set deadline. For the full details and to enter, head on over to the So You Think You’re Funny? website.
