As part of the BFI Film Academy’s Break Into Film, HOME theatre, The Showroom and Film Hub North have come together to offer a development opportunity for young people from the North of England.
The opportunity is open to teams of 3-5 young people aged between 18-25, who are living and based in the North of England. Students are also more than welcome to apply!
The development opportunity is a five month long project in which HOME aim to offer successful teams £2000 in financial support, and industry professional support. During this time, teams will be developing a 5-10 minute long short film.

The process will start with post-production, including a session with Talent Executives on Script Development and another session with your groups assigned Producer on Coordinating Productions and Budgeting. There will be a 2 to 3 day shoot, followed by a month to edit the footage and finalize the sound. Each film will then be showcased in some of the North’s most established Independent venues and submitted to some of the UK’s most renowned festivals!
To apply, teams will need to submit the following:
- A rough draft and a small treatment for a 5-10 minute short film
- Supporting Material (feel reels, mood boards etc)
- Location ideas (Names/addresses of locations)
- Links to examples of previous work
Each group will also need to attend both sessions with Talent Executives and Producer.
