DMs Are Open is back from April 2023 – the exciting new open door radio show from the BBC, made by listeners. The show is currently accepting submissions for sketches, one-liners and voicenotes.

From their website:

For this series, DMs Are Open is going NON-TOPICAL. This means that we’re not looking for sketches based around news stories of the week. Instead, each episode will have a theme, and we want your sketches, one-liners and voice notes to fit into that theme. So you no longer have to start from a news story, instead your material should relate to the week’s theme. As long as your material has a connection to the theme, it’s got a chance of getting on the show.

And what are the themes? You’re going to have to wait – new themes will be released week by week and you’ll be able to find these here and we’ll tweet it out from the @DMsAreOpenBBC Twitter. As soon as submissions close for one writing week, we’ll drop the theme for the next.

Plus, all you character comedians might want to listen up, because you can also submit a 20-second audio clip which could be played in the show’s voicenotes section. It’s a great opportunity to read your own material and get your voice heard!

The below flat fees apply to all successful material:

  • £45 per min for sketch
  • £22.50 per 30 seconds of sketch
  • £22.50 per one-liner
  • £35.50 per voicenote

Submissions open from Tuesday 18th April, and deadlines are below.

  • Sketches deadline: Midday Monday 24th April
  • One-Liners and voicenotes deadline: Midday Tuesday 25th April

Then at the same times each week, for 7 weeks.

Apply on the BBC’s website.
